Dana Mitchell
Advisory Board Member
Dana Mitchell serves on the MABL Pathways Program Advisory Board. As one of our founders whose passion to uplift Black students helped make our program possible, she is also the heart of the MABL Pathways Program.
Dana Mitchell is a Deputy Attorney General with the Minnesota Attorney General’s
Office and an adjunct professor. Previously, she worked as a division manager with the
Minnesota Attorney General’s Office, assistant county attorney, public defender,
qualified neutral, mediator, and staff attorney for a federally appointed court monitor,
which resulted in a $1.25 billion settlement for Black farmers. She is a former law
clerk with the Office of the Counsel to the President at the White House.
Dana graduated with a joint degree from the University of Minnesota School of Social
and University of Minnesota Law School where she earned an M.S.W. and J.D. Dana
was a Bush Fellow at the University of Minnesota School of Social Work.
Dana has been recognized by Minnesota Lawyer as an Attorney of the Year in 2022
and 2023, Honored Listee with Marquis Who’s Who in 2023; Minnesota African
American Heritage Calendar Honoree in 2022, Minnesota Women Lawyers Social
Impact Award Recipient in 2022, and CARE Award recipient for mentoring.
Dana is the current President of Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers (MABL),
and co-chair of the 98 th Annual NBA Conference. She has served on several
committees, including the Minnesota Supreme Court Task Force on supervised
practice.
